Veggie Garden of 2007

So here are some lush photos of my wee veggie garden. Unfortunately, I forgot to get a shot of the entire garden, but I got the individual plants.

Lettuce
My pretty little lettuce. =)
Only two grew... I think the mole got the rest.

Tomato
The bloom on our only tomato that actually
bloomed. We didn't get these planted early
enough, & the soil wasn't the best, so they
didn't grow very fast. We'll be starting them
soon, here. February, probably?

Okra
Cute lil' okra. We never got to harvest these,
either, but the whole row did pretty well.

Italian Beans
Look at those precious beans! Italian beans.
They did fairly well, too, though they never
got to the point where we needed to build
frames for them.

Cucumber
Cucumbers... had lovely little vines & blooms,
but these plants weren't very hardy. I think
the mole liked them; we never saw a cucumber.

Zucchini
Baby zucchinis! A big pretty bloom!
The zukes were very nice to us... grew like
mad, the whole row of them! And they gave
us plenty of zukes to eat! Yay!

My first veggie garden (besides the one or two seasons I helped my mom & brothers do one, but we were young and it wasn't that successful.) The spinach didn't come in at all, nor the onions. The rest grew more than anything I've grown before, but most didn't make it to harvest before the frost.

I learned that I need to enrich our dry, clay soil so the plants can grow better. And we'll have to do something about the mole. We're going to build raised beds for the veggies, this year, too, and I'll supervise the planting to be sure the rows are straight (LOL) and have watering trenches next to them.

Or ideally, get a drip system set up. *dreams*

The Garden Guests of 2007

Here are some of the unexpected visitors to my garden in 2007. Minus the mole, because he was sneaky and I only saw him once, for a fleeting moment. XD

Dragonfly on Column 2
This little friend posed for me on one of the
porch columns. I loved getting close-ups with
the sun reflected in its wings. So beautiful!

Dragonfly on Column
A side view of my little friend.

Interesting Weed
This weed made me think it was my spinach,
for awhile. So I watered it and everything.
Then we realized it was just one of those
flowering weeds... like this one...

Cool Weed 2
...which is pretty and stuff, but it's a weed.
But I might capture any of these I find and
transplant them to a bed just for them,
because I have seen them grown on purpose,
in other yards.

The Herbs of 2007

2007 was my first successful year with herbs (although Dill is so easy that I have grown that, once before).

Kati's_Sprouts
Here are the sprouts of the carrot and basil
that Kati planted at school and brought
home. These were our first sprouts of the
gardening season!

Dill Sprouts
Here are the sprouting dill and,
I think, sage, that I had in my little
green ceramic pot.

Herbs
And the same pot further along...

Basil
And apparently this is the only shot
I got of the other two pots of herbs,
which did very well. We had basil,
sage, and oregano all Summer. =)
This is actually Kati's basil, transplanted.
It did better than all the others.
Kati has a green thumb. =)

The basil was so very yum in the pasta salad we took to a potluck, and we would even just pluck a leaf to chew on. Delicious! We even liked just sniffing the fragrant plant. I ~love~ herbs! And they made my front porch very pretty. I'll have to get a picture of the decked-out porch, this year.

The Flowers of 2007

Here are the flowers I managed to grow in 2007, minus some I forgot to get pictures of, but those will be back in Spring.

BeeBalm
Bee Balm - my new favorite! So pretty, and smells divine!

Faerie-guarded Sprouts
We planted some English Daisies here, and set the little faerie to watch over them.

Red Flowers 1
Some red daisies we bought potted, but then planted. They re-bloomed in the Fall!

Red Flowers 2
Here's where I put them, right in front of the porch!

Wild_Rose_Bush
Here's the wild rose bush that lines the fenced side of our back yard.

Front_of_Rose
And its pretty wild roses.

Side_of_Rose
And from the side.

With spring will come some white, star-shaped flowers, and grape hyacinth. And possibly the seeds I planted of wildflowers and some others, that never sprouted last year...?
